DIY Tropical Boho Swag Decor

Today I have a “how to” on creating a swag piece that is perfect for decor in your home or for parties! I will list the supplies you need and write out an easy tutorial on putting it together. It only takes maybe 15 minutes to tie together!

Supply List

Scissors, Floral Wire and Hot Glue Gun

Pampas Grass stems

Sun Palms, Palm Spears, Paper Palm Spears

Bunny Tail

Real or Faux Palm Leaves

Any other tropical or boho flowers/filler you like

Tutorial

  1. Make your Paper Palm Spears. You’ll need card stock in the colors of your choice, a ruler and double sided tape. these are extremely easy even for basic crafters. I saw this on a quick video by Kailochic and figured it out myself just by watching the video. There was not a proper tutorial on it. I have a video below that shows you how quick and easy they are to make. On the longer side of the piece of card stock, measure down 8.5 inches, mark it with a dot. Now draw a straight line from that dot up to the opposite top corner of the paper. Cut on that line and you will be using the triangle. Fold 1/4 inch sections accordian style, starting at the longest end of the triangle. Next, take the 2 long ends and fold in half. This creates the palm! Lastly, use double sided tape to mend together the 2 sides so they stay in the palm shape.

2. Start with your longest/ biggest floral pieces. Mine were the boho pampas grass stems. Grab 2 stems and place them back to back so that the flower parts are on opposite ends. Use floral wire to secure the stems together. My video below will show you how to do this.

3. Next add in any other palm leaves, sun palms, bunny tails, etc. Continue to use floral wire to secure the stems.

4. For finishing out the center parts, use palm spears or paper palm spears to cover up the center stems. You can do this by using a hot glue gun to attach the palms. And you are finished! You can hang it using clear jewelry line or fishing line. Or use it as a stunning table runner!
